Matcha Masterclass in Oxford
Matcha Masterclasses in Oxford
Due to popular demand we are running TWO Masterclasses - one in the morning 10am-12pm and one in the afternoon 2pm-4pm.
Matcha - powdered Japanese green tea - is one of world’s most famous teas with an irresistible taste of bitter-sweet and savoury umami. It is also the most popular green tea in the UK at the moment as its anti-oxidant rich, super-food qualities are the focus of much health research.
In Japan, preparing and serving Matcha is seen as an act of spiritual cultivation that helps the tea drinker to transcend everyday life and has come to symbolise Japanese humility, hospitality and refinement.
In this Matcha making workshop you will learn about:
- The use of matcha in chanoyu - the traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony
- Making the perfect bowl of matcha at home
- Preparing different types of matcha
- Using different teaware and tea bowls
- Tips on buying, storing and using your matcha at home
Come thirsty and ready to be inspired by the deep history and flavour of matcha, brought to you directly from Obubu’s tea fields.
This is our second year hosting Obubu in Oxford for this very popular workshop. Places are limited so early booking is essential. No tea knowledge required. All welcome.
Founded by two friends - Akky and Matsu (pictured here) Obubu Tea has sparked a revolution which has breathed life into agriculture and tea farming in Wazuka Prefecture near Kyoto. Tea farming in Wazuka was an industry in decline before Obubu arrived and restarted tea cultivation in an area surrounded by abandoned tea fields.
Today, with the help of Simona (their super-intern who fell in love with Obubu and never left) Obubu are gaining recognition for their delicious teas across the globe - especially for their Sencha and Matcha - which are some of the best in Japan.
